I just got home from walking to the grocery store. I needed to pick up a few odds and ends for dinner. The walk to the store takes about a twenty minutes. The weather is beautiful today–clear sky, nice breeze. The whole time I was walking this song was going through my head.
Here’s some Curtis Mayfield for you. I tried to find something with a good video and sound quality but I couldn’t find that. So here’s good sound and a video of an album cover.
I don’t put much rap on this blog. It’s funny because I grew up listening to rap, jazz and classic R&B. This is a short video by Common. It’s really good.
I just realized that I haven’t put any Marvin Gaye up on this blog yet. I have no idea how that could’ve happened. Here is a live performance of Got To Give It Up. I know you’ll want to dance during this one. Don’t be shy. “Let’s dance. Let’s shout. Gettin’ funky’s what it’s all about!”
It all started on the stairs. We were talking about hits from the seventies, singing and breaking into spontaneous dance routines, when we remembered Leo Sayer. How could anyone forget? Yes, there was You make me feel like dancing, but how can that compare to this gem. The Show Must Go On is quite enjoyable. The clown outfit makes it that much more enjoyable.
I have to admit that I like Gnarls Barkley. This is their latest video. It was banned from television initially because the effects could cause epileptic seizures. If you think you might have a seizure don’t watch this video.
Since Herbie Hancock won Album of the Year for River: The Joni Letters, I thought I’d post this video about the making of the album. This video has a short interview with Herbie and some shots of them recording tracks on River: The Joni Letters.
I watched the Grammys on Sunday night. It was full of all the usual awkward prescript-ed banter. It had many unlikely and ridiculous duets. The most ridiculous one was Kid Rock and Keely Smith singing That Ol’ Black Magic. There was a very corny performance by Herbie Hancock and Lang Lang. I don’t know who Lang Lang is, but he wore a showy outfit and made a bunch of showing-off hand movements while he played the piano. As usual I muted the television whenever any country music stars performed.
My favorite performance at the Grammys was this one. After the performance she wins Record of the Year. Watching that was really entertaining. That Amy Winehouse is such a strange character.
