Gilfema “Gilfema + 2″
Gilfema + 2 is the follow up to Gilfema’s self-titled debut that was released in 2005. The diversity of the trio is reflected in the music. Guitarist/vocalist Lionel Loueke is from Benin. Bassist Massimo Biolcati is Italian, but grew up in Sweden. Drummer Ferenc Nemeth is Hungarian. Gilfema + 2 includes two guest clarinetists, Anat Chon and John Ellis.
Now that I’ve gotten all the facts out of the way let’s get right down to the meat of the matter, my opinion. I’ve been listening to Gilfema + 2 for a week straight now. I tend to do that with new music. This album has the combination of world rhythms and jazz improvisation that I love. I love the addition of the clarinets–I’m not just saying that because I play the clarinet.
The music is complex and the vocals are joyous. Gilfema + 2 has become the number on album to practice your musical instruments along with in this house. My favorite tracks on the album are Question of Perspective, Salomé
, and Cove
.
Check out this album. You won’t regret it.
